Create A Shopping Email

Most privacy enthusiasts start with some basic steps to limit our exposure to spam and personal info leaks.  A new article in Wired describes how frustrating it can be to realize how we’re opted IN automatically when we share email addresses and other information with vendors.  Have an email address ready to use for receipts and other reasons vendors can reach back to contact you.  Make sure the email address doesn’t include your real name or identifying information.

American laws need to catch up with changes in privacy laws passed in Europe.  We should be asked to OPT IN every time we share our personal information including digital information such as IP addresses.   Sharing should never be the default without customers’ consent.

In the article’s example, Square doesn’t even offer an option to OPT OUT, even when you create an account and search their website.  They’re considering it.  Wow.  This is BS.
